The Havre volleyball team knocked out 10 matches over the weekend in East Helena, beating notable opponents like the host Vigilantes, Dawson County, and Laurel. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Cassie Krueger and she said her team’s play was better than expected and that the negatives on the court were quickly corrected as the tournament progressed.
“Overall, I think it was a very good weekend,” Krueger said. “We had a lot of moments where we did things that I have not seen this team do yet as far as errors and making mistakes.”
“But when we addressed it, (the players) were extremely responsive,” Krueger continued. “They worked together as a team to correct those errors and we moved forward.”
“(I’m) very proud of how this (past) weekend went, actually,” Krueger said.
The Lady Ponies will now turn around and host the Havre Tip-Off Jamboree Tournament in which they will play five more games this weekend. Teams from both the eastern and western part of the state will partake at both the Blue Pony Corral and Armory Gym on the campus of MSU-Northern. Krueger said what the difference is between the tournament that was played last weekend versus this weekend.
“(The Havre tournament) will be different because we are not doing a round tournament bracket play,” Krueger said. “We are just going in and playing every team best of three sets. There will be two sets to 25 and then if we split, we’ll do a third set to 15 (to determine) the winner.”
“We are going to be matching up against teams that we don’t normally see, so we’re playing teams like Bigfork, Ronan, and Polson,” Krueger continued. “It’ll be very fun to play those westside teams and see how we’re doing compared to them.”
The breakdown for Havre’s volleyball games this weekend is in the “Scoreboard!” tab, while the full schedule has been posted to the Havre Volleyball Facebook Page.
