NFL supporters have accused the Super Bowl LVIII of being rigged after the Kansas City Chiefs won their second consecutive title by beating the San Francisco 49ers in a dramatic comeback conclusion.

The Chiefs and superstar quarter-back Patrick Mahomes pulled off a stunning overtime performance ended with a late Mecole Hardman Jr. touchdown earning them a 25-22 victory.

The Lombardi Trophy was raised by the Chiefs for the third time in five-years as the seventh longest game in league history was finally brought to an end after 74 minutes and 57 seconds of play time.

Super Bowl’s Las Vegas showdown was the first time the event has used their new overtime rules that gave both teams the opportunity to score a touchdown in four fifteen-minute quarters.

49ers chief quarterback Brock Purdy got his side oncourse for Super Bowl glory before eventual victors, Kansas, clawed their way back into the game and eventually onto the title.

Fuming critics of the event have now dragged up a previous social media post from the start of February that claims the chairman of CBS Sports, Sean McManus, stated: ‘The NFL has alerted us that, for the first time ever, we will have a double overtime game (in the Super Bowl).’

His comments were viewed by many at the initial time as being a tongue-in-cheek reference to sceptics who believe the glamorous NFL showpiece is a scripted sporting event.

However, some fans are now using his previous claim as evidence to suggest Kansas City Chiefs were always going to win the Super Bowl regardless of circumstances.

One such post on X read: ‘NFL is never beating the rigged/scripted allegations after this one… #SuperBowl.’

Another similar view explained: ‘The 49ers had it won before that late night point dump. Rigged! #SuperBowl.’

‘#SuperBowl more rigged for the Chiefs & Swift than pro wrestling,’ stated another comment in reference to Taylor Swift’s support of winning Chiefs boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team-mates.

However, celebrating Kansas City supporters were quick to deny the outlandish suggestions, with one fan hitting back: ‘Anyone that claims the #SuperBowl was rigged is just coping lol.’

Another user explained: ‘The #SuperBowl was not rigged. The Chiefs just continue to to show that they are the most elite team in the NFL. They’re now a dynasty with a QB with the greatest start of a career in the league & a TE (that we can/should call out for his Pfizer propaganda) that could go down as one of the greatest TEs of all time.’

‘I’m sorry but people saying the game is rigged literally aren’t making sense? You’re telling me the teams meet up, explain their plays to each other, and have a rehearsal game before the big game? RIGHT,’ said another post.
