Just like Brad Underwood’s team, the Illini Rebounders had a blast Tuesday night.
At a festive first-time watch party at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club in Champaign, the rabid fans chowed down (hors d’oeuvres by chef Adam Sallenberger) and whooped it up (“lots of cheering” and I-L-L I-N-I chants, Deanna Woodard said) as the Illini thumped Florida Atlantic some 830 miles to the east.
Better yet, they raised more than $1,000 through auction items and donations to give to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.
“I wasn’t quite sure how it would all work out, but I did think it was very important to start giving back again,” Woodward said. “And I was very pleased with the outcome.”
The lively event was sponsored by UI baseball coach Dan Hartleb and his wife, Gina.
“It definitely was a win-win evening,” said Woodard, adding the club is considering more watch parties for Illini road games. “Doesn’t get much better than that (thinking) how many people we can help, especially this time of year.”
