The reigning Longines World’s Best Jockey James McDonald is joining the News Corp family again to share his thoughts and insights ahead of the five big days of the Sydney autumn carnival – commencing this Friday.
McDonald has won just about everything that’s worth winning in Australian racing and will be the man in the hotseat on more Group 1 favourites than any other jockey, and possibly all others combined, over the next five weeks during the Golden Slipper Festival and The Championships.
This season, McDonald is again Australia’s leading Group 1 rider with nine local Group 1s to his name while he’s also ridden more than 33 per cent more city winners than any other Australian jockey.
During his illustrious career, McDonald has already chalked up 75 Group 1 wins as well as success in The Everest and he’s a six time champion Sydney jockey, only four premiership away from emulating the legendary George Moore’s record of 10.
McDonald said he was pumped to share his thoughts with punters.
“The next few weeks of racing are huge and I’m looking forward to sharing my insights on my rides and about some other issues in racing,” he said.
“I can’t wait to ride on Slipper day on Saturday. I’ve got a great book of rides.”
News Corp’s editorial director of racing and wagering Matt Williams said: “J-Mac has been judged the best jockey in the world and we’re thrilled to have him on our team again.”
“His previous columns with us have always been popular and the next few weeks will be no different,” he said.
