Space Coast girls basketball coach Bennie Shaw is taking his Florida Comets Gold 14-and-under team to the AAU World Championship tournament in Kings, Ohio, June 26-30. The Comets are the top-ranked team in the AAU for 14-and-under in 2024.

Members of the team are Phillayjah Carroll, Mya Glover, Eriyana Kitchen, Ka’Miah Jenkins, Zanya Smith, Ja’Vayah Anderson, Adrianna Livingstone and Somaya Pickens.

The team will also compete in Georgia and in the Disney Memorial Day Classic as well as attending a selection of college basketball team camps.

Melbourne grad named all-conference baseball

Jason Blackstone of Florida Tech was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Defensive Team.

The Melbourne High product started 48 of 50 Panthers games at shortstop and led the SSC in assists, with 162. He also recorded 72 putouts and posted a .951 fielding percentage. He was part of 33 of the team’s 45 double plays. He hit .285 at the plate, with eight doubles and 11 stolen bases. He had a 42-game on-base season streak.

He was also named to the Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
