Stewart J. “Pete” Christy

Stewart J. “Pete” Christy of Aurora, NY, passed away at his home on May 5th, 2024, at the age of 82 years.

Born the fourth of nine children to Lorraine C. Christy and Stewart R. Christy in Dunkirk, NY, he spent much of his time growing up on the family farm outside of Fredonia. Upon graduating from Dunkirk High School Pete enlisted in the U.S. Army and worked as a Communications Specialist with the 3rd Infantry Division in Kitzingen, Germany. During his time there he earned the honor of Sharp Shooter with the U.S. Army Europe competitive shooting team. Upon returning from Europe Stewart returned to the family farm. becoming owner and operator of Christy Farms, Inc. Pete went on to have a highly successful purchasing career with the CliffStar Corporation in Dunkirk, NY, Cadbury Beverages, which relocated him to Rochester, NY, and finally Degussa Fruits and Flavors Systems in Philadelphia, PA. He retired to Aurora, NY in 2004 where he spent 20 wonderful years enjoying time with family and good friends, going shooting, creating beautiful furniture and gifts in his woodworking shop, cooking, taking his faithful canine companion Sadie for rides, and acting as a warm pillow for his cat, Lucy.

Pete is survived by his son, Stewart E. (Renee) Christy of Hamburg, NY, his daughter Amanda Ellen (Andrew Potratz) Christy of Rochester, NY, his grandson Lucas G. Potratz of Rochester, NY and his beloved and devoted partner of eight years, Elaine J. Hall, of Lansing, NY; step-children Phillip J. (Lisa) Latona of Atlantis, FL, Scott W. Latona of Oxford, CT, and Richard D. (Marlene) Latona of Hamburg, NY; siblings Kathleen (Kay) (David) San George, Ellen (Richard Lipinski) Christy, Mary Jane (Richard) Zbaczyniak and Luke (Sue) Christy; former wife and mother to Stewart and Amanda, Terry Lee (Graff) Christy; many cherished nieces, nephews; and family by love, Allen (Heather) Hall, Deborah (Timothy Ryan) Hall-Ryan, and Lisa (Richard Smith) Hall.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by Carol (Cross) Christy, his cherished wife of nearly 30 years and mother to mother to Philip, Scott and Richard Latona; and siblings John Christy, Joan Niedbalski, Sheila Tederous, and Barbara Schrantz.

A beloved father, grandfather, partner, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Pete was a trusted confidant and insightful advisor. Always generous with his time, love, and humor, he could be counted on to help unravel a problem or make another feel understood. He will be deeply missed and his memory held near in the hearts of those close to him.

Friends are invited to call from 1:00-4:00 PM Saturday, July 13th at the Brew Funeral Home of Auburn, NY, with a military service beginning at 3:45. Interment will take place on Monday, July 15th at 11:00 AM Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia, NY.
