By RYANAIR has warned passengers of “potential disruptions” today as heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected to hit the country.
Met Eireann has issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

The alert, valid until 9pm, reads: “Heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Potential impacts include spot flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.”
Met Eireann Aoife Kealy said that thunderstorms with intense downpours are expected once again, turning heavy in the east, south, and Midlands.
She said: “It’s gonna be another fairly warm day today. Temperatures are getting up to the mid-eighteen generally, but those warmest temperatures will give some more heavy showers this afternoon – but the chance of some thunderstorms once again.
“More frequent showers are going to develop throughout the morning – turning heavy in the east, south and the midlands this afternoon with intense downpours and thunderstorms developing and chances of hail, too.
“Some of the heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms continue but in the night showers will become less frequent.”
Met Eireann added: “The best of any dry weather will be in Connacht.
“Highest temperatures of 15 to 19C in light northerly or variable winds.
“The showers will ease and become less frequent overnight. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11C in light northwesterly winds.”
The Irish airline has said some flights may be affected by the poor weather conditions.
They apologised to customers, saying delays are “outside of Ryanair control.”
A notice on their website reads: “Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from Ireland on Tues 21 May should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.
“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions, which are outside of Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines operating to/from Ireland on Tues 21 May.”
Allan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather has been updating his social media followers on the weather forecast.
He wrote on X that there is an “interesting day of weather ahead with risk of some severe thunderstorms.”
He said: “Yellow thunderstorm warning added now for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. Some areas may see impacts beyond that though.”
Ryanair operates over 2,800 flights daily, and the operations team may need 24-96 hours to establish the reason for flight cancellations.
The airline assures passengers that handling potential complaints is a priority and will be done as quickly as possible.
